About Neko Buttons

buttons.nekoweb.org is a library of buttons, blinkies, and other graphics created on Nekoweb for Nekowebbers. The idea is to create a repository that Nekowebbers can visit in order to find interesting graphics and sites to link out to. Buttons are an idea pulled from the pre-Y2K internet, and are designed to help webmasters cross-promote one another on each other's websites.

We'll go through and find new buttons every now and then, but if you want to make sure your button gets added to this website then send us a message. Listing your buttons on this site will make it so that Nekowebbers can more easily find and link to your website, so make sure you send them in!

As always, the views and opinions expressed on the listed websites do not necessarily reflect the views, opinions, policy, or position of buttons.nekoweb.org. This repository is not in a position to be able to take responsibility for the content or downloads found on any of the websites submitted to it. Be wary when visiting and interacting with untrusted websites. buttons.nekoweb.org has no affiliation with Nekoweb or any of it's developers, aside from being hosted on the service. What are Buttons?

Buttons are small (often animated) images that represent a person's website. These images are generally 88x31 pixels in size, are generally animated .GIF files, and are usually found in a links section on pre-Y2K styled websites. The purpose of creating a button for your website is for other webmasters to take your small 88x31 pixel promotional image, and add it somewhere on their website.

Oftentimes, when a webmaster realizes someone else's site has linked to them via their button, the webmaster will link back to the site that linked to them in return. By doing so, the two websites cross-promote each other to one another's viewers.

Buttons can also be used to express yourself, without linking to anything. The small form-factor makes it a great canvas to present your interests to visitors! Webmasters will often line up many buttons in a row showing their beliefs, hobbies, and friends.

What are Blinkies?

Blinkies are similar to buttons in that they are small, often animated images that people use to express themselves. The difference in use however, is that people generally don't make a blinkie to advertise their site. Instead, they are almost purely for showing off a webmaster's interests, hobbies, or opinions.

Blinkies have a wider form factor than buttons, at 150x20 pixels. They are almost always animated .GIF files, and generally have blinking borders surrounding some inner text (hence the name "blinkie"). The small form-factor once again makes blinkies a great canvas to present many interests to visitors!

I find it useful to think of blinkies as the bumper stickers of your website! You will often find blinkies at the bottom of the home page on pre-Y2K styled websites, or on the about/interests page of the webmaster. Webmasters will often make and gift blinkies to one another.
